FAQs
What are classes like?
1
Online classes are synchronous (not pre-recorded). Classes cover the particular challenges of writing science fiction and fantasy, as well as the challenges present in any type of writing. As for the rest: it depends, but there’s always a variety of readings, writing exercises/prompts, discussion, and finally, a workshop critique. You’ll receive feedback on your writing, deadlines that whoosh by, a library of readings and resources, and a supportive community.
How long have you been teaching?
2
Since 2015. I’ve led creative writing courses at the University of Toronto’s School of Continuing Studies, Catapult, the University of Iowa, the Iowa Young Writers’ Studio, Write Rhode Island, and Frequency Writers. These include Fiction, Science Fiction & Fantasy, and Creative Nonfiction workshops. I’ve taught both in-person and online, and to all ages (from middle schoolers to adults—including 65+ only workshops).
How can I find out about future classes? How can I keep up-to-date on your writing?
